If you are considering marriage, the process of creating a collaborative prenuptial agreement should be on your to-do list. This is not your parents' prenuptial agreement. After meeting with the couple in a joint session, the two attorneys work together to generate a draft agreement based on the initial conversations. The topics discussed are based on my years of experience practicing family law. Those areas that are frequently a source of conflict are fleshed out in great detail to help each of you understand your spouse to be perspective. We can help you fashion agreements that deviate from the typical California Family and Community Property Law to determine the outcome that the two of you want and not what the California legislature prescribes. Each of you has an attorney protecting your individual interests and it is done cooperatively, with respect and a focus on honest, open, and detailed conversations so that the two of you go into the marriage with your eyes wide open. These are marriage-strengthening conversations.

To facilitate these marriage-strengthening conversations I use a resource entitled "Designing Our Future Together." It provides numerous prompts for conversations that help couples have some detailed discussions before they come to their first collaborative prenuptial agreement meeting. Having worked through this resource together, clients are more prepared to go even deeper to address their individual perspectives on the topics that are the most common sources of conflict.
